Week 4 Submission - David Ricks
David Ricks
I was at Mayfield colony on Friday and flew two fields for
the farm boss. This is the results for one of the fields and the other
field was similar in results. 36 pictures for each 160 acres and you
could see some of the pictures were of water or headlands not planted. He
really liked the view from across the whole field and not just a couple of
spots.
Because his crop consultant Jeff had just been there a
couple days before with another type of population tool, Fieldview!
Here Jeff goes out in two different places and takes a
picture of the plants in rows and somehow it determines:
- Population
- How many plants are ½
leaf behind and how many bushels per acre less that will yield from
optimum
- How many plants are 1
leaf behind and how many bushels per acre less that will yield from
optimum
- How many plants are 2
leaves behind and how many bushels per acre less that will yield from
optimum
- How many plants are 3
leaves behind and how many bushels per acre less that will yield from
optimum
- Bottom line is showed something like 16.9 bushels less than optimum per acre.
The farm boss wasn’t quite sure what that meant, from what
optimum yield, but he does know that his crop consultant is all in with Fieldview!
He did like our population determination a lot better!
