Week 11 WINNER! - Larry Osborne
Larry Osborne
1. Called to investigate P9188AM “many plants snapped” concern from grower. In this field, Pioneer was nearly perfect standing…discovered a competitive plot however in the field was less than ideal for brittle snap and also root lodging. Around ½ of the competitive varieties were in tough shape. LG, NK & Peterson Seeds competitive hybrids.
2. Grower asked for some aerial views of his poor field…far too much moisture and late planted P9492AM needed some help. Drone Deploy was used to assess the whole field as well as calculate area of corn that was in better condition (highlighted areas). Field was sidedressed and we are following in Encirca imagery.
3. Grower asked rep and agronomist to fly some fields with brittle. Acknowledged that competitive varieties were also problematic but P9608 that was late planted experienced severe brittle snap (up to 50%). Earlier planted P9608 withstood the wind much better.
4. The grower was very happy for the attention from Pioneer. Their two daughters liked watching the drone so I showed them their farm place on the iPad, took some photos for the family, and had the oldest daughter “help” fly for a little bit. They were very happy to have the new rep work so closely with them!
5. Customer heard we were in the area flying and asked for a visit. He had some P0306AM that he thought was worse brittle than his Legend in the same field. Parts of the P0306AM did look bad (20-40% snap in places…but most was lighter levels. The competitor only appeared to be better because at the field entrance, it was standing well. Aerial imagery showed it was also very severely affected and in fact looked to be more severely affected that the P0306AM as a whole.
6. Customer observed P0157AMXT was severely root lodged & brittle in a field where Dekalb varieties also were planted. The image shows severely snapped Dekalb next to generally good P0157AMXT. In another area of the field, the P0157 was tough but it was limited to about 10 acres in a bad corner.

7. PKP Plot in the heart of the
brittle damage area (south of Flandreau SD). 3 competitor hybrids all
showed significantly more damage than any Pioneer products!
